About Us

Iain Cheyne Bio

I started playing poker when my dad taught me on the kitchen table 20 Years ago. He was a fairly good teacher. I had the hand rankings written down on some paper besides my mountain of penny's and 1/2 penny's I was playing 5 card draw. Every time we would go on holiday, which was normally to some caravan in the middle of Wales, as soon as it rained the cards and money came out.

It wasn't until 2002 when i discovered you could play online and I found a new game Texas hold'em. Living in London at the time it was at least two years before I went to either the Vic or the Gutshot. I can remember giving out and conversing at great length to Neil Channing on the Gutshot forum about the need for WSOP satelittes and that they shoudln't just pay cash instead. I had no idea at that point about a bankroll or how to use one.

Live poker become more popular with me when I moved to Co. Galway four years ago. I quickly found posters and notices and slowly built up a list of the games I could play and where the casinos were. I found it hard at first, but soon got in a few results and people seemed to want you to play at their game.

In October 2008, I had a magic moment. While listening to Andy Black at the IPO's opening address he asked, "Do you want to be the best in your town? Or, do you want to be the best in your county? Or the best in the country?" How would you know who is the best in your town or county? Who keeps score in Irish Poker?

From that moment IrishPokerRankings.com was born. From that I have built my list of contacts in the game and my knowledge too. I hope to offer you a balanced and unbiased view of Irish poker through IrishPokerRankings.com and Irish Poker Radio.

Good luck at the tables whether they are real or on a screen.
